The 1.3 mile Bottom Out trail has several short challenging spots that advanced riders are not going to ride without dabbing. The trail is currently rated as: 60% Intermediate, 35% Advanced and 5% Expert. For mountain biking the trail is best ridden from the Outer Limits trail to the Girdner trail. For hikers either direction would be fun with Outer Limits to Girdner being the easiest.

It is impossible to ride many of the steep uphill rock sections going from Girdner to Outer Limits. One could ride about a 1/3 of mile of Bottom Out from Girdner as an out and back.

Unlike most Sedona trails the Bottom Out trail was built in two significant washes that have a significant downhill component, so there are numerous steep rock drops that make the trail challenging. The rock drops are spaced out in between short dirt sections of trail on either side of the wash sections. As you get closer to the Dry Creek Wash the trail gets very steep. There is a real nice steppe drop in the steep section that runs to a techie tree gap feature to a really steep chunky rock section that is super challenging. After the steep chunky section the trail has two different lines One is a short rock drop to the top of 4' high waterfall. It looks like expert riders could huck off the waterfall to the flat gravel bed below and ride to the dirt singletrack. The second much easier line is to ride to the far left of the waterfall and ride a big off camber red slickrock to a narrow but doable roll off to the gravel creek bed before the dirt singletrack that climbs out of the wash.

After the steep wash section the trail transitions to a narrow dirt singletrack trail that has several challenging spots, All of those spots can be ridden by most advanced riders. The character of the singletrack section is twisty with short up and down spots..

The south end of Bottom Out is assessed off of Outer Limits. Since the 1.3 mile trail is best ridden from south to north the trail
eventually ends up intersecting the Girdner trail not too far away from where Axis crosses Girdner.
