Buck Creek is a gated forest service road that gains a fair bit of elevation in a short stretch. The start is not super-obvious but found south along a wide access road along a ditch. The gated Buck Creek 'trail' becomes apparent where the ditch disappears underground. Pass around the gate and begin a relatively sustained climb. The surface is oddly a bit loose, most noticeable mid-way where grades reach a stout 20%. Near the top, things ease off before passing another gate. Crossing the forest road leads to Broken Thumb (ATV segment). It is a stellar climb (grind) that gets you up to Broken Thumb and the Idlewild trail network NW.
