Like most of the Buck Creek Loop, this section of Timberhead is best ridden counterclockwise. The eastern portion of this route is a grunt of a climb but it is well worth it for the fun descent to the old growth at Middle Fork.

The Buck Creek system is made of some very steep trails, tight steep switchbacks and ripping fast and loose sections. There are some great views, chunky terrain, and lots of tight brushy areas. Penny Ridge is an old jeep road—rocky and steep but pretty wide and straight for descending.

Leafy foliage still covering trail in places. A bit better than summertime though as some plants have begun to drop. Elderberries perfectly ripe!
