This trail is best ridden as a climb from McIlroy Saddle on the B-1300 road. It starts out as trail with some nice views of Mt Hood as you ride along Penny Ridge and then turns to old road and ATV trail. This is the first section of trail to climb if you are riding the Full Monte. You can shuttle to McIlroy Saddle or bike up the B-1300 road. It is not recommended to climb the Baldy section of the Buck Creek loop because much of that section is steep and moto-ed out.

The Buck Creek system is made of some very steep trails, tight steep switchbacks and ripping fast and loose sections. There are some great views, chunky terrain, and lots of tight brushy areas. Penny Ridge is an old jeep road—rocky and steep but pretty wide and straight for descending.
