Multi-use and all-season trail. No motorized vehicles are allowed. Fin Island West is groomed for cross-country skiing (skate/classic) and sit skiing in the winter. Trails are groomed weekly once enough snow falls for cross-country skate skiing and classic skiing. In the summer, the trail system is mowed so it's accessible and wide for all types of uses. There have been occasional bear and cougar sightings on Fin Island approximately every two or three years. There are coyotes in the area as well, so it's good to take caution with small dogs and keep them close on a leash. Dogs should be kept controlled in the park. People with dogs must also pick up after their pets and keep the park trails clean. Ensure all garbage is packed out of the trails and placed in the hard garbage cans at the entrance. The trails are multi-use which means that closer to the parking lots the ski trails can get a bit rougher in-between grooming. The area is good for sit skiing as well in the winter, along with snowshoeing, kick-sledding, and fat biking. In the summer biking, adaptive biking, hiking, trail running, a bit of horseback riding, birdwatching, and many other activities happen on Fin Island. Walkers are reminded to yield to skiiers and cyclists (anyone travelling faster than them) and stay to the right of the trails. There is lots of interpretive signage, some benches, bird feeders, wildlife like deer, many species of birds, and the occasional family of moose on the island. Please do not disturb the wildlife and try to respect their space. There is access from the island into the North Saskatchewan River as well for kayakers or canoeists.

Access Info

Accessible from the parking lot and in the trail system as shown on the map.

Disclaimer

Take caution of any wildlife. Yield to anyone travelling faster than you by moving to the right of the trail. Be aware of your surroundings.

Adaptive Bike Info
aMTB 1 Rating: No obstacles exist. Wide enough. Can be ridden confidently solo.

This is a wide groomed snow trail in the winter and mowed grass in the summer. The trail is wide and accessible for aMTB or sit skiing.
