Butterfly is the best beginner trail in the entire Syringa Trail Network. The loop begins at the Pine Street Woods parking lot, entering the forest just above the Red Center, climbing gently above "Main Street" (the name of the wide gravel path leaving the parking lot heading south). The first third mile of Butterfly was built by Collaborative Trails in spring 2020 and is affectionately referred to as "Butterflow" due to its super flowy design and super smooth tread. It ends with a huge swooping berm to the left, followed by a quick right that shoots you across Main Street. Carry on into the meadow on Butterfly for another quarter mile or so of meadow singletrack before dumping out onto a wide trail on the southern property boundary of PSW. From here you can leave PSW on either the Little John connector trail (the left option) or ride the Pend Oreille Pedaler's trail, Momentum, which leaves PSW here and takes you on a 0.7 mile loop into the property to the south, known as VTT.

To continue on Butterfly ignore both these options and continue along the southern border of PSW on a double track for a few hundred yards, with the fence line and Little John to your right. Soon you'll see the singletrack continue into the woods, where it will wind along the southern edge of PSW for a ways before beginning a fun descent back towards the lower meadow. There are a couple of options for connections to Greta's Segway to your right as you work your way around Butterfly. Either of these can be taken for additional loops incorporating Greta's. Eventually you'll emerge back into the northern part of the meadow, for a casual pedal back to the Red Center and the PSW parking lot.

Butterfly is groomed for singletrack Fat Biking in the winter months.

Access Info

Trail starts and ends at the PSW parking lot. It can be accessed from one of two connectors from the middle and top of Greta's Segway, or from a connector near the west end of Little John.
