Epic tour of the Jemez Mountains, including high mountain meadows, expansive views, hidden valleys, subalpine grasslands and bomb-able fire roads. Most of this ride is very remote and cell service is limited. Ride with a group and carry an emergency beacon. The Chihuahuenos drainage requires route-finding and crossing of multiple downed trees. The route is technically easy, consisting mostly of fire roads. However, the altitude, remoteness, and length make it an intermediate/advanced ride.

Access Info

Park at Pajarito Ski Area (or ride up from town) and end at Bodes in Abiquiu. The Valles Caldera National Preserve is open to biking during daylight hours without permit. No camping is allowed inside preserve. Water is plentiful until polvadera mesa (treat appropriately) or carry 4-5 quarts.

Disclaimer

Remote, high altitude, limited cell coverage. Be bear-aware.
