Affectionately known as the 8 Miles of Hell, this leg of the famous Butte 100 race has seen lots of improvement since it was named and is a fantastic piece of remote single track. Often covered with trees this section is best ridden after mid July to give the local land management agencies and rides time to clear the trail for you (or better yet, bring a saw and help out).

Access Info

Park at the Highlands Picnic area by following Roosevelt Drive off of Mt Hwy 2 (go straight, it turns into Moose Ck and Shiloh Ln, just stay straight on the main Rd). The other end of the ride ends at Pipestone Pass at the top of MT Hwy 2 between Butte and Whitehall.

Trail is open, clear and great to ride. Very smooth and great vistas of the Butte Valley.

Lime kiln CDT is clear and snow free up to the Toll Canyon trail intersection. From there to the cattle guard/road there are over a dozen trees and plenty of snow.

      Hey mtcanuck,
Thanks for commenting on the trail conditions! In the future I recommend doing this as a trail report as this is the official way to view and update status and condition of trails on Trailforks.
      Cheers,
      Matt
