This trail segment from Big Hole Pass to the Three Mile Ridge trail goes through a forested area and also an old burn. Several steep pitches with hike a bike are present. A reroute around the central steep section just south of Old Bulls Cutoff was completed in 2019.

For bike travel north to south is recommended to minimize the Hike-a-bike. A big shuttle ride starting at Anderson Mtn or Chief Joseph Pass and finishing on Sheep Creek would be a great way to ride this section of CDT.
