Starting at the SE Mt. Benson summit, the trail descends the SE ridgeline of Mt. Benson via a variety of steep rock slabs and chutes. Keep an eye open for optional large slabs and high lines. After descending to El. 900 m, the trail traverses the ridgeline at a lower grade with a few short, punchy climbs. At El. 880 m, the trail drops in steeply to join into Meat Draw for a long, technical descent.

Access Info

Climb Mt Benson via any route (typically the Benson Summit Road) to the SE summit (where the upper radio tower is lcoated). Drop in from the summit to the north (towards Nanaimo) from the abandoned radio tower footing, following open slabs towards the lower radio tower. East of the lower radio tower, the trail becomes more well defined singletrack.

Trail clear and running good, just take care at the very top, the summit of Benson is littered with glass and this is unfortunately also the case...

50% of trail covered in snow, not worth it yet. Needs 2 to 3 more weeks to melt. Road to summit is clear. Lowest downhill section of Chainsaw...

This trail is rad. The general concensus is that most people ride it once and they’re done with it. But I loved it. It’s a trials rider’s dream descent. Full of that beautiful super grippy Nanaimo rock, beautiful views, burly rock rolls, and ultra technical 4-lo sections throughout. I don’t think it would be fun on a DH bike, it’s too technical and you need to pedal a lot. It’s one of those trails that you could call yourself a hero if you rode the whole thing without dabbing.
