Chert Dip Details
Continuing from Gneiss & Smooth, the trail gets more challenging, with larger rocks and roots, several technical dry stream crossings, and some technical climbs. Like most of the singletrack around the mound loop, there are more optional features to be on the lookout for.
Chert Dip goes down the mound on a white-knuckling descent, and then climbs back out via a series of small but steep climbing sections, including "Dr. Evil's Rock Garden". After that, a series of crossings leads to "Crux Climb", and then to 5 Corners, which is a gravel crossing.
Catch your breath, then continue onto Serpentine Climb... take a right on the gravel ski path, and the singletrack continues on the left.
