China Gulch Road Details
This logging road section connects the Sawmill Gulch (176) trail with the China Gulch (176) trail. The upper portion of seasonally open road (Road 023) is open to vehicles from 5/22 to 9/07. It may still be closed by snow until mid June or later in the upper elevations however. The section of road dropping down into China Gulch is closed to motorized vehicles. These roads have no restrictions on bicycles. See the Salmon-Challis National Forest Motor Vehicle Use Maps if you need any clarification. These old roads don't get much use so there may be downfall across them if not cleared recently. The upper end of this road segment is at approximately 6,400 feet and the lower end is at 5,100 feet. You will loose approximately 1,300 feet in this 3.33 mile segment.
The trail junctions are not signed. See the Stormy Peak (023) Road on maps. Best to have a GPX track of the trail with you when riding this one.
