Coal Creek Details
The low laying parts of this trail are super nice and have a lot of character. The trail follows an awesome creek bed that keeps the temps much cooler in the summer, and it's absolutely beautiful with waterfalls and ferns everywhere. If you are climbing, be prepared to hike for at least a half mile near the top. This trail becomes a grinder about a mile in, but it allows the quickest and most direct access to the Graham creek descent, which is a ripper. If you ride down this trail, the upper section is very steep and direct, but the further you go the more interesting the trail gets. Added bonus, huckle berries are out in force near the top.
Drive North on the Coeur d'Alene River Road, do not speed, this is a favorite spot for police to hangout. Turn right when you see the National Forest sign, the road is unmarked but immediately behind this sign.
Plan on some "Hike a Bike" if you are climbing.
