Coal Kiln Canyon Details
Trail starts out as double track and turns into single track. It starts in the sagebrush at the Coal Kilns at 7,350 feet and climbs up to 8,720 feet. The climbing gets steeper and the trail gets more primitive the farther up you go. The trail ends at the base of a snow slide near timberline. The trail was made to horse skid or sled logs to the charcoal kilns from farther up the mountain where forests made wood available back in the 1890 ? era. Check out the kilns at the start of the ride as they are very interesting.
Access from the Charcoal Kilns road, off of Highway 28, between Leadore and Lonepine, Idaho. The road to the Charcoal Kilns is a good gravel road. Park at the kilns and ride from there.
