It's a routine start--a pedal through open meadows and stands of hardwoods. When you reach the power line thoroughfare, the topography tilts towards fun. Like the Buttlerfield Trail, it's not much, but enough to gather some speed and put a grin on your face. A few pedal strokes and you're flying. How do you maintain all that speed? Bermed corners! Calm down. These aren't massive, machine manicured, lift-assist berms. They're North Texas berms. Act accordingly.

Outside of berms, you will have to navigate a couple of rocky spots and trail intersections. At the end of your speed run, you'll come to a bypass intersection. There are trail markers, and you can always refer to your Trailforks map. Stay on Coal Miner and you'll come to the access road. Cross it and go through the wash, then head across the pond dam. Look to rejoin the trail on your left. It's a fun little chute into a thicket of trees. Carry your speed and you will coast the climb. Now, decisions. T149 Trail (black)? Service Road to the Rock Trail (black)? Rock Island Railroad (blue)?

Damp but not wet or muddy. Wonderful conditions right now, get out here before it dries out and becomes too loose.
