This is a popular Multi Use Trail (hikers, runners, cyclists) maintained by SAGE Trail Alliance (nonprofit funded by donations). This trail requires a bell to ride (provided for free at bell boxes in parking area).

Chunky throughout, with areas of exposure. The lower section of trail 'East Fork' was rebuilt in 2018 and is flowy now and also has more switchbacks. Easier and safer than its bigger cousin Tunnel Trail.

Hikers are frequently encountered on this trail and occasionally horses. Please ride with a bell. Bells are located at the trailhead on Camino Cielo.

Top section recently smoothed-out by volunteers and bottom is clear with a few river crossings being a little washed out but no big deal.

What exactly is the best way to climb/get to the top of the trail?

I don't know if it's best, but I like to park at the base of the trail, ride over to Romero Canyon and ride up the fire road, then take Blair Witch up to Camino Cielo, and take a left on Camino Cielo to the top of Cold Spring. (This is a lot of climbing, but it's much more enjoyable than riding up Gibraltar Road.)
