This appears to have originally been a pathway to install radio towers along the ridge that has long been abandoned. Keen eyes will discern a narrow bench cut into the south face of the ridge just below the crest running west to east from Bertha Peak. The majority of this trail is non-existent and the intrepid hiker will have to make their own way around the rocks, shrubs, fallen trees, new growth and weeds. The trail is very rough, with heavy, loose stones prominent along the way - sturdy footwear is strongly recommended. This trail is not easy - not recommended for novices or children. Sections along the east-west segment can be steep and may require use of hands to climb or descend. The steepest parts are in the far eastern segment that mostly runs north-south. This is the only area where regular foot traffic is evident and the path is most visible. In this segment hikers ascend from the south to top out at the first knoll on the ridge. They take a few snapshots and then return to the neighborhood to the south. Be advised that this segment is exceptionally steep and the soil is loose so climbing or descending can easily lead to slipping and falling. The area is dry and the shade is thin so bring water and a snack. Views are great so bring a camera. Mountain biking here is permitted, but not recommended - expect to push or carry the bike frequently as minimal areas can be ridden.
