The Crest Trail follows the ridge line from Fly Saddle just within the Wilderness area, eventually connecting to Barfoot Park Road. Along the way it passes Bootlegger Saddle, Rustler Park Campground, and Barfoot Lookout Saddle. The trail generally parallels to Rustler Park Road and Long Park Road, alternating from the west side to the east side of the ridge. It has excellent views on both sides of the ridge. Most of the trail is rated blue. Between Rock Creek Trail and Bootlegger Trail however, the Crest Trail is more difficult with narrow, loose, rocky tread and plenty of exposure. Most of the downed trees are on this section as well. There is a small rock slide below a large rock outcrop just before the Bootlegger intersection that you will need to carefully carry the bike across.
Access Info
You can access the Crest Trail at Rustler Park Campground or via a short connector trail from Long Park Road to Bootlegger Saddle.
Note - as does the Long Park Trail, Crest Trail crosses into Wilderness 150ft before the two trails intersect. So if travelling by bike you cannot connect directly from one to the other. Instead, carry the bike cross country between the trails at the Wilderness sign which will keep you out of Wilderness. It is a short carry of about 100ft through aspen trees and grass over flat terrain.
