A great way to access Buff Creek or a nice out-n-back on its own. This section of the CT starts along the South Platte river with a bridge crossing and a wild switchback start. Although the trail was not originally built for mtb, it climbs exceptionally well and the strong rider can clean the light, loose switchbacks with some good skills. The trail levels briefly near an old mine and enters the burn. A rough place to be on a hot day as its exposed for much of the way. Climbing for another 5miles, you get a chance to duck into the north side of Reynolds Mtn and some nice shade. Somehow the burn blew around this area. The final 4 miles rolls gently through another burn area to County Rd 126 (Deckers Rd) and the firehouse. A short run parallel to and across 126 puts you into the Buffalo Creek trail network. If you happen to get caught out here on an exposed, hot day and are running low on water, there is a water source (and typically shade) on the northeast corner of the firehouse.
