This is the main traverse trail across the Mount Olympus Wilderness Area. The eastern portion is a popular mountain bike trail, where this is the hike-only section of the trail. This section starts at the east end by Dog Lake and traverses around Mount Raymond down into Millcreek Canyon. The Millcreek Canyon hike has nice switchbacks to keep the average elevation easy, but the trail quickly gets difficult at the top. Rocky, exposed and high altitude make for a long a difficult day in the mountain.

That said, it is all worth the views you get from both sides of the canyon

Access Info

The hike part of the trail is accessible from the Thaynes Canyon trailhead in Mill Creek. If you are starting from Dog Lake, the easiest way to access it is to park at the upper Mill Creek Trailhead and hike the Big Water (042) Trail up to Dog Lake. There are several access points on the west side of the lake to connect.

Of note, this trail was historically cut for motos before the Wilderness idea came about and is therefore a relatively friendly grade.
If bikes are ever allowed in some Wilderness, it would be a great ride after some rehab.

Also, this trail is bike-legal from Millcreek road to the Wilderness boundry (ie western-most end) which is just past the Salt Lake overlook. You'll get a little over 2 miles of pretty steep climbing with a half dozen spots that require a short portage. Also possible on the fatty in the winter.
