An historic donkey trail that accessed the Mascot Mine above Hedley. The top half is old doubletrack, the lower half is singletrack. Overall, the trail is not difficult at all, but some short sections of tight switchbacks combined with some very exposed parts mean that less experienced riders may not want to ride this trail.

This trail is at least 120 years old. If you've ever ridden Idaho Peak, it is similar to both Choices and the Wakefield. Very scenic.

Access Info

Note that at the trailhead, you will be looking for the lower road within a couple hundred meters of the start. At the old barn, you will want to go through the yard here past a very old miner cabin. Roughly halfway down, you will dead end at an old bunkhouse. Backtrack a bit and look for the singletrack. At the bottom, turn right and traverse to the access road for the water tower or you risk getting chased out of someone's backyard. Hedley dogs can be savage!

This trail is unsanctioned, use at your own risk!

Riding fine, couple of trees down higher up. The property at the top of the powerline has some unwelcoming signs but we had no issues. One eroded...

This is a really great trail, awesome views a bit of tricky riding, quite fun! Check your brake pads at the top, it's quite steep!

Fantastic historic adventure over a 3000ft descent! Check out youtube clips of the abandoned Mascot Gold Mine to add context to how incedible this is! Finishing in Hedley just adds to the whole wild experience.

Sounds like a sweet ride. Probably need a shuttle to the top?

It’s an adventure more than a ride. To pedal to the top via the Hedley Nickel Plate Rd would be 13km and less than 1000m of elevation gain so not a big outing by today’s standard. That said, a shuttle is super nice if the opportunity is there.
