I know the news made it sound that way, but reports indicate the the person who fell was not riding at the time.

Note: I am not recommending riding the trail, just filling in some details.

interesting, since people were saying she wandered out to that one lookout point. Plenty of places to fall over if you are biking through this trail.

I have biked this trail a bunch of times at off-peak hours - you would really have to ride WAY off trail or do something really bizarre to fall off the edge of the main cliff here - not supporting riding the trail just saying

There are two specific spots that are right on the cliff face, where a dismount or crash could result in falling. There's also the spot right by the rock lookout where there's a footpath that leads to the cliff. So there's two spots that are on the trail that are very close to the edge. Was just there last week and saw the spots. Very close, no signs.

We have bike trails that are sanctioned here in our city that sometimes can be 1 meter from the edge of a 30 meter drop. This same trail goes along the cliff side for 5 km. Only people that have "died" falling off the cliffs here are people that are partying, they are drunk and/or on drugs. Now, if a mtber were too ever fall off, they'd close these trails. They look at it as the person who was'ent influenced by intoxication should have been responsible enough to know better. It's retarted.

I doubt anything at Kelso requires a "pro" rider, you just need to avoid rolling off a cliff....don't ride the trail blind?

Now rated blue square and considered a hiking and biking trail officially on the map as far as I can tell

As a staff member in the park, I can say that all trails in the park were declared multi use as of last year (201Cool . This specific trail was re-routed to be farther from the cliff in those locations that were close in years past. The old trail sections exist but are becoming less obvious.

The trail is very very rocky, I definitely don't recommend ridding it by bike. It isn't fun at all.

Me and my buddy accidentally rode it wondering how on earth it was rated blue but now knowing it’s for hiking only makes more sense

Great trail. Tests your skill. Either roll the drop to the left or walk it down... seasoned veterans may huck... hardest 4min in southern ontario.
