Fairy Creek Trail Details
A dirt road that takes you up to Swine Flu - a much better option is via the Visitor Centre Trail. The trail also carries on round Mt Proctor and up Fairy Creek. Both Far Side and Swine Flu cross it. It is a very mellow ride out as far as the bottom of Swine Flu. It eventually turns into a savage hiking trail that heads right to the top of Mt Proctor, some 1700m above the valley floor. It's actually a good rainy day ride, out and back as the trail is pretty rocky. It has a couple of brutal climbs near the start after the trail splits for the waterfall turning. After those early climbs (pretty much hike-a-bike unless you're a machine. There is a bench at the tope of those climbs) the trail turns into a pretty easy ride, technical roots and stuff like that, but generally bumping up and down until you swing around the back of Proctor and into the draw between it and the Three Sisters. Then it becomes a very steep hiking trail. Great views at that point and there is a second bench there. The waterfall (see Fairy Creek Waterfall Trail) is a very cool outing. If you are looking for the out and back stay right at the waterfall turning, heading toward Mt Proctor. You'll know when it's time to turn back, because it will be impossible to ride your bike any further...
Start either at the Visitor Centre, or at Fairy Creek itself. When you cross the little metal cattle gate you need to climb a little further, and then head left on the well-beaten trail.
