This easy trail varies from an old roadbed (no longer open to full size vehicle travel) which is gradually narrowing to a section of legitimate singletrack. Climbs are easy and short but can still provide a little thrill on the downhill segments. You may encounter hikers and dogwalkers in this area so please take note and be courteous. This trail serves as the primary access to the trail system above it. You can access the Lombard trail (via Blue Mountain trail) and the main network via the Valley trail.

Access Info

There are two primary access points for this trail located on either end. There is a parking area on the Challis Dump Rd that accesses the southern/eastern end and it can also be accessed from the north end adjacent to the Challis Golf Course by taking the paved perimeter path around the west side of the course until you encounter a gate and trail signs.

The Foothills Trail, especially when combined with the Bridge and Corner Cutoff trail segments is a great ride and is a good option for newer riders due to the easy grades, good surface and lack of serious technical challenges. There are a lot of fun sections when ridden in either direction, but there is more downhill if ridden from the golf course towards the dump road. Climbs are short and fairly easy but with lots of payoff in flow on the downhills. This trail is easy to access from any of the trailhead locations and offers a quick but fun option when looking for a lunch loop from town.
