Challenging trail running directly behind Squaw Peak where you'll find many of the best DH segments in Dreamy Draw.

From the hard-to-get to saddle w/2 benches between Irregular Link and VOAZ, you'll have Upper Hairball down the West face of the mountain, and Upper Cheese Grater down the East face. Both are optional mostly HAB starting points to Cheese Grater and Hairball proper, and are VERY steep, rocky, loose and have some of tightest switchbacks you'll find anywhere. Beware of rocky wheel traps, sharp tire slashing rocks and oblivious hikers. Momentum and commitment are necessary.

Further down the mountain to the East, you'll find the tamer, but still super chunky, Lower Cheese Grater. Tons of hikers most weekends, so beware. Run it as a fast segment from the VOAZ saddle and go right at the junction, or HAB up Upper Cheese for a clinic in continuous tech.

On the West face, continue south on the very rocky and steep Hairball, which is usually started from the Irregular saddle for a faster run. Lots of drops, boulders and must-make moves for a clean run. High consequence for spills out here, but very rewarding. The few climbs in and out of the wash are rewarded with excellent rocky and steep downhill segments.

This is a hiking trail. Unless you're looking for some dope hike-a-bike, avoid this trail.

Took Irregular Link up and the bottom half of this trail down. I road the whole way but went over my bars once. Lots of repetitive stair drops and large rocks to avoid. Super difficult even down. Don’t ride it unless you accidentally end up on the trail ????.

Hairball is a tough trail, but the stair steps in the first quarter of the trail are manageable if you commit. A few very sharp ups, and some high consequence exposure as you head toward the Notch. The chute above the Notch is very tough to find a line through, and setting up for the Notch is difficult without some repositioning. From there, lots of steep, loose downhill with a few moderate climbs on between. Solid run.

Took voaz to this yesterday and then irregular link today. Irregular is way less hiking If you start at the beginning of the trail (W to E) you’ll hike a bike till you get to the saddle that gives you the option to meet back up with irregular link - which you should take back down to 1A. If you have to try it like I did, just be very careful. There are lots of drops one after another, followed by sharp turns and nasty shelved uphills. There are probably people out there that can navigate, but I would guess there are not many that won’t need to hike numerous parts of the trail. I’m glad I tried it but I will never go back there again on wheels.

Freedom trail from Irregular Link is basically hike a bike up to the top then the downhill is rideable but very challenging. Intermediate riders should bring a pair of Depends if they ever find themselves on this trail and you better have all the personal protective gear if you want to ride this. If you are training for some black diamonds or double blacks for Sedona, this trail is a good preparation trail. Otherwise, just stay off this because it will really take alot out of you and then you can't ride the the other 6-7 more trails you were planning Smile
