As the name suggests this trail follows along side German Gulch, which winds through a small but beautiful canyon lined with rock formations. The trail mostly mirrors the gradient of the river, which isn't too steep, but there are a couple of places where it rises steeply up higher than the river for a while before dropping steeply back down. The trail starts off as doubletrack at either end, but is predominantly singletrack. The top half of the singletrack is full of low speed technical sections that may challenge even the best riders. The lower half is a fun old school cross country trail that offers sections with great flow.
Access Info
This trail and all other trails and roads on the Mt Haggin WMA west of the continental divide are closed to ALL public use from Dec 1 to May 15 each year.
German Gulch trail can be accessed from the top by driving down the German Gulch road or you can park on the Durant Canyon Road, just off the Fairmont Road and ride up to the the trail. There are some gates at the bottom trailhead and a few land owner issues that are currently being worked out. The top is totally accessible by a dirt road(SUV or Truck is best). A fun option is to park at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort and ride up the German Gulch Road for a bit of a climbing challenge and then descend down German Gulch and then ride the Fairmont road back to your car.
