Not recommended - attempted this after seeing it a MTB guide book in which the route is described as ‘expert’ (black route) We were prepared for some difficulties as neither my wife or myself regard ourselves as “expert” but we are both capable riders. The initial climb is tough but doable if you have good fitness. The trail leads on to an easy section of nice single track as far as the high point with stunning views into the ‘the great wilderness’. From this point a deteriorating trail leads to the end of Lochan Fada at the point where the Loch flows into the Glen Bianasdail gorge - in spate this is a dangerous crossing which should not be attempted. The day we crossed the water was knee deep and deceptively fast flowing - it was bad judgment on our part and this should have been our turn around point but committed and eager to complete the round we carried on. The crossing is followed by a tough hike-a-bike climb which eventually reaches a high point and the promise of good single descending begins - but it’s very narrow, badly eroded, very loose and stony and for the best part unridable. It’s a hikers path and nothing more. After heavy rain there are couple of very sketchy waterfalls to negotiate and a steep rock descent which required both hands and feet. Worth an out and back ride to the high point just to witness the views but the circuit is to be avoided. Hardest and most frustrating day in the hills I’ve ever experienced as a climber/mountain walker/MTBer of some 40 years experience.
