During Grafton Ghost Town days, this was an old mule track to access the mesa-top, now eroded into narrow downhill-only singletrack.
The upper 1/2 sections are a very rough technical rock garden on a steep descent. Lots of loose chunk, boulders and some steep rolls down rock stacks. Trail is mostly straight but has a couple of twists and bends. Due to the large boulders and drops, sight-lines are limited and a major element of the difficulty is the short time available to study the trail ahead. Some sections fade from view and can only be judged just immediately before the entry to drop/roll. This is rough, old-school tech-gnar with lots of steep and loose and uneven traction. Most lines have no easy ways to abandon or step-off the bike due to the hazards left and right, so the trail requires a lot of commitment.
The lower 1/2 sections move further away from the rocky bands of rock along the cliff and introduce surface changes. There are some rock-stack chutes and multiple side-options with more speed and momentum possible. Some of the side options involve gaps or high-lines to drop-off.
The bottom quarter is smooth dirt. There are spines, drops, hips, gaps and ridges.
CAUTION: near the bottom, the trail takes a gentle left turn along the ridge of a spine. To the right of the spine is an unsurvivable sheer drop-off, and you will be very close to the edge, especially if you do not turn. The drop cannot be seen on the approach. People walking up to and near the edge have made it seem like the line of the trail goes riight towards the drop.
Conveniently in case of disaster, there is a graveyard located just at the end of the trail.
Not suitable for wet weather.
