June 12-13 2021 I rode (bike packed) the section of Grandview from Thunder Mountain to Procter Canyon. It was really pretty and there was not another person anywhere around. Cool and unsettling, at the same time. Many sections were sandy and where that got steep, it was hard to ride, even with plus tires. From miles 6.5 to 7.5 was a steady sandy climb. By then it was getting warm. too warm. So, we ended up abandoning our original goal for day 1, Tropic Reservoir, and camped at the top of that climb. It was lovely. The 17 year cicadas were everywhere. It is interesting that they get quieter in the hot afternoon, and were completely silent in the evening. There was a decent creek coming out of hillsdale canyon (I think that was where) and in June, that might be perennial.

The next morning, we continued down, then up, then down, to Proctor Canyon. There was as livestock or game water trough with a pipe of spring water trickling in at about 8 miles. Eventually, the up gives up, and this trail drops to Proctor canyon road. I wish I had noticed that the description for this trail segment says it is 9 miles long and takes on average 9 hrs 26 minutes to complete it. I wonder if that means 9 1/2 hours from Thunder Canyon to Proctor road and back, or just one way (2 mph???). It would be easier without 30 pounds of camp & food, but this trail is tough. It has some steep, long, sandy climbs. But, it is very pretty, and other than the sand, not really technical.
