Section of the Great Western Trail (GWT) that's decent for mountain biking. Primary trail use is ATV, which is what the trail is maintained for. Please give motorized users the right-of-way unless they indicate otherwise. I have not encountered many ATVs on the trail but they definitely use it.
The distance listed is one-way. It is fun to ride as an out-and-back from either direction (16 miles roundtrip). Pine creek back to the trailhead near Teasdale has more downhill. Can of course ride part way out-and-back too. This is not classic/epic singletrack but is good riding for Wayne County. Some fun and fast descents, rock gardens and water bars. You'll cross government creek and Pine creek which are year-round creeks. It is a beautiful area. There is lots more GWT trail in this region. It's not all equally fun for biking but certainly more exploring can be done.
Trail is dog friendly depending on the temperature and the dog but I would not suggest riding the whole thing with a dog. From the Teasdale side to a little past Government creek is a nice dog ride with good water at the creek. Not totally shaded but decent tree cover mixed in.
Teasdale is a small, quiet community (and quite beautiful), please drive slow and be courteous. A few minutes west of Torrey, go south on Teasdale road (dirt parking area near the turn). Drive ~1.4 miles south and turn right (west) onto W 125 St - there will be signs for USFS access. Go 2.2 miles up this road to the trailhead. It will turn to dirt but is 2WD accessible, unless it's muddy. Park somewhere intelligent (i.e., don't block any roads etc.) which will not necessarily be at the trailhead. The small pull-out / turn-around just past the trailhead is for vehicles with trailers - do not park there please.
