Grizzly Flats Trail connects Vogel Flats Picnic Area to the intersection of Grizzly Flats Road, Hoyt Mountain Road, and Upper Dark Canyon Trail. The upper third is a gentle fire road grade. Below Grizzly Flats (technically a trail camp, but fairly decrepit and indicated only by a water tank and dismantled gate) the tread narrows to singletrack that's more reminiscent of the Strawberry loop, with encroaching poison oak, height exposure, and some very steep sections. The bottom third of the trail crosses Big Tujunga Creek several times on its way to Vogel Flats. The crossings can run dangerously high during and after rains, and change frequently.

Access Info

Both ends of the trail offer popular parking spots. Off Big Tujunga Road park at Vogel Flats and find the trailhead at the very eastern end of the parking lot. Vogel Flats has picnic, trash, and restroom facilities (but no water) so make sure to display your ANF Adventure Pass if you park there. Off Angeles Crest Highway park at the bottom of Hoyt/Grizzly without blocking the gate.

Disclaimer

Check CFM of Big Tujunga Creek before leaving.
