Hamilton Buttes #118 is a fast, rough, and rowdy moto trail that descends approximately 3000 vertical feet. The trail starts descending down a ridge through open meadows before diving back into the forest to finish off this great descent. The view from the top of Hamilton Butte is amazing providing views of the Goat Rocks, Rainer, Adams, St. Helens, and Hood.
This is a popular ORV area so watch out for motorized traffic.
This trail was once used by fire lookouts on their way to their solitary post. The trail, mainly used by trailbikes, joins with the Valley Trail #270 to the south and ties in to the north with the Blue Lake Butte Trail #119, Yozoo Trail #276 and Hamilton Peak Trail #109. On the south end, the Hamilton Buttes Trail climbs through scattered old growth and second growth forests before entering open fields on top where you get views of Mt. Adams and the Cispus River. The trail follows the ridge through several open meadows.
Park at Cat Creek camp ground near the junction of FR21 and FR78. Climb FR 78 for 5 mi before turning on FR 7807. Climb 7807 to the 029 spur and Mud Lake. Despite the name Mud Lake is quite clear and makes for a great spot to take a break.
Climb 029 until it turns into the Hamilton Peaks trail #109. Enjoy the amazing view and amazing descent back down to your car.

|Rode Hamilton Buttes on 9/3. Trail is very dry and dusty from the motorized traffic. Still a super fun ride if you are comfortable with the moon...|
