The Heart and Pearl lake trail descends from the stateline trail south of Superior and is a great backcountry ride with amazing views. Descending tends to be steep and rocky, with sharp switchbacks, especially near the top. Then big rock gardens and boulders lower down and along the lakes.

Access Info

The Heart lake trail starts about 5mi from Hoodoo pass on the stateline trail. Legality of riding the stateline trail is questionable- on the portions of the trail in ID, bikes may not be allowed. Additionally, the proposed clearwater/nez-perce forest plan will create a recommended wilderness area that parts of the stateline trail passes through. That's still a few years away so ride it while you can.

Dry and tacky up high, little wet below the lakes. Only two downed trees by upper heart lake. Get it while the getting's good!
