Creek hike on the southwest side of the Gila Wilderness that leads to expansive views near Holt Mtn (about 5 miles). Well worth the steepness of the trail.
This trail travels through multiple ecosystems including a lush canyon bottom with great fall colors.
Please note that sections of the hike are in the creek where berry bushes and rabbit brush grow thick every year.

Some sections of the trail have narrow tread on steep hillsides.

Access Info

From Silver City, at the junction of HWY 15 and 180, take HWY 180 west about 54 miles. You will drive through Cliff and Buckhorn. You will pass Little Dry and Big Dry Drainages. Turn right onto Forest Road 146, which is signed for hiking trail 181. There is also a green road sign that reads Sheridan Ridge Rd. Travel about 3.9 miles on this improved gravel road to the trailhead.

Disclaimer

Do not use this trail when the creek is flooding. The dirt road may be slippery when muddy. Long horse trailers may not like the switchbacks on the dirt road to the trailhead
