This trail inter-connects Deadwood to Lead using the old Homestake Railroad Grade. There are excellent views into both Deadwood & Lead plus the surrounding forest. A number of interpretive sites also provide for an educational experience.

Access Info

Park at the Deadwood Trail Head located on the west side of Sherman Street, about 1/4 mile south of downtown near the old railroad depot which, is a designated Mickelson Trail Head. To start your outing go a short distance south west on the Mickelson Trail from the trail head to intersect with the Homestake Trail on the north side making a 180 degree exit. There is also a small parking area located just north of Grandview Street on Washington Street in Lead.
