A trail all the way to Aratiatia Dam some 7 kilometers away. Although this track starts with a bit of a nasty short climb it is an easy track thereafter suitable for most beginners. In the summer months (October to March) the flood gates on the damn open every 2 hours between 10am and 4pm - which is a pretty impressive sight. Head back the same way as you came to Huka Falls.

From the Huka Falls bridge you can also ride up to the Helistar Hub Cafe and a linking tunnel under the roadway to the Wairakei Forest with it's network of fantastic flowing trails.

A final warning - the trails around the Huka Falls are very popular with walkers and tourists so although they are wide enough to pass walkers while on your bike you need to be in the lookout. Park map no 4.

Watch out for those jumps heading back to Huka Falls, being a green track I did not expect three big jumps on a quick downhill.

Tree down. Bit muddy. Good views down to Huka Prawn Park from the new section which hasn't been updated here.

Quite dusty and track is eroding in places but usable. Bit more than beginner track but not overly difficult if you take it easy

Riding from Aratiatia to Huka Falls - enjoyable, some great downhills. One steep uphill that little ones may struggle with or have to walk their bikes though, and the little ones may be a bit frightened on the downhills - there's one quite steep section though it's only short and one quite tight corner on a downhill - I actually managed to slide out my back wheel at this corner, so be alert. This trail is mostly a Grade 2 but has some Grade 3 characteristics in places (occasionally narrow, occasionally steep)

This is an easy and fun family ride with one reasonable climb just past the highway Bridge you pass under. The track is in good condition and rideable all year, You can return along the track once at the Aratiatia carpark or continue the loop down the opposite side of the river once crossing the Aratiatia dam road bridge. Highly recommended as part of the Aratiatia loop.
