    Dixon Park District

The I.C. Rail Trail currently consists of 4 miles of trail broken into 12 sections in the corridor boundary along the Lowell Parkway Trail. On the east side (Meadows and Lowell Park) of the bike path are sections 1-3 (mile 1) and 4-6 (mile 2). On the west side (Dixon Correctional Center) are sections 7-9 (mile 3) and 10-12 (mile 4). The entire single track is rated as a “Blue Trail” (moderate difficulty), although the sections vary in difficulty allowing for more users to enjoy them.

The trails consist of mainly hard-pack dirt with some rock and portions of pavement in between the sections. The single-track has a nice mixture of smooth flowing trail and tighter technical terrain. Obstacles include logs, small ravines, slight off camber trail sections, inclines, rollers, small jumps (optional), berms, gravity dips, low clearance, tight tree sections, roots, stumps and some rocks. Some of the obstacles have go-around options. The varied obstacles are the weather and vegetation. The trails are multi-use and are open year round to walkers, hikers, runners and bikers. This trail is not open to horses.

The I.C. Rail Trail is now maintained and monitored by volunteers under the direction of the Dixon Park District through it’s Trail Committee.

Access Info

The I. C. Rail Trail is built on either side of the Lowell Parkway Trail from The Meadows Park to Lowell Park. It is accessible by the Parkway from the parking lot at Washington Ave, by Cinder Rd. from the parking lot at the soccer fields/dog park or by the connector trail from Lowell Park.
