This trail climbs above the Phillips Lake area and leads to an excellent view of the reservoir and surrounding area. There is also a view of Elkhorn Ridge to the north. The trail is used commonly by hikers but can be added as an out and back for a longer ride on the North Shoreline Trail.

The trail starts across from Union Creek Campground where a dilapidated stile goes over a barbed wire fence. The easiest way to access the trail is to go east on Highway 7 for a few hundreds yards and go down the 280 road. The trail descends down into Union Creek and crosses a gravel road. There is a wide spot here for a vehicle or two to park. Afterwards the ride to the overlook is a relatively mellow incline and includes one switchback.
