Kanaka Loop Trail Details
The trail follows old ranch roads the entire way, so the going is relatively easy. About a half-mile after these open meadows, the trail goes under a canopy of huge, old, live oak trees, which never fail to impress. Still near the creek, the trail then passes by several enormous sycamores. Easy for the first 1.5 miles, moderately strenuous for the remainder.
To get to the Kanaka Loop Trail from downtown Julian, go north on Main Street, which turns into Farmer Road. At Wynola Road, turn right, then left onto Farmer Road again. Santa Ysabel Open Space Preserve is on the left, about one mile past the entrance to the Volcan Mountain Wilderness
