Linking Smails Beach and Karetai Road, the Karetai Track is an old public road that winds through farmland and provides exceptional views of the coastline and the sheer cliffs lining the Otago Peninsula.
A great track for an evening stroll with old stone walls providing great photo opportunities. For the more adventurous, the Karetai Track provides a link to the Highcliff Tracks and beyond.

At the end of Tomahawk Road, park at the Smails Beach carpark and walk up Karetai Road to the start of the track. Alternatively, park at the top of the track on Karetai Road and walk down to Smails Beach.
