This trail is a rowdy backcountry gem. It starts off with a mellow climb through open trees but the grade quickly ramps up with several very steep hike-a-bike pitches. After about a mile of steep climbing the trail crosses an old road cut and there are views of Packer Meadows far below. After this the grade slackens and the climb is mostly rideable.

The trail rolls up and down along the ridge passing through occasional rock gardens, burned areas with views of the Bitterroot Mountains, and tunnels of vegetation that snag your handlebars. At at second road cut the trail turns left and follows the road briefly then turns right and drops off the ridge for a long descent through sharp challenging switchbacks towards Lee Creek.

At about 6 miles the trail intersects with the Lee Creek Interpretive Trail. The Lee Ridge Trail turns left here and descends for another 1/2 mile to the Lee Creek Road. However, the Lee Creek Interpretive Trail is more fun and goes right back to the Lee Creek Campground.

This trail is surprisingly well maintained for the remote location. There were many cut logs both fresh and and old. The steep climb, rocks and roots, and sections of thick vegetation, and sharp rocky switchbacks make it challenging to ride. But stopping to lift your bike over deadfall is rare.

The trail was in surprising good shape for an out of the way backcountry trail. It appears to be cleared of deadfall on a regular basis. I cleared...
