Climb up steep switchbacks above the old Devils Canyon Mine before leaving the forest and traversing open heather and huckleberry slopes to a saddle overlooking Anderson Lake. The maintained trail ends at the saddle. From there, scramble down to Anderson Lake on faint remnants of an old abandoned trail or up the ridge to the summit of Dog Mountain. Expect windfall, brush, route finding and solitude. Enjoy great views of upper Lennox Creek Valley, surrounding peaks and good berry picking in late summer and fall.
