This route is traveling south from the trailhead.

Start at the well marked trailhead on Blue Grass Hollow Road. This trail continually climbs for about 4.5miles up Little Mare mountain. The trail is relatively well marked with blue blazes but is not a frequently traveled route. There are several extremely steep grades near the top of the climb and rock gardens.

The trail ends with a steep descent to the Little Mare Creek and the start of the Brushy Ridge Trail. At the top of this decent there is a trail that splits off to the right...stay left.

It says both directions, but I can't imagine what sort of sadist would enjoy the climb starting on Blue Grass Hollow Road and working up toward Little Mare Mtn. Consider starting at Brushy Ridge and riding toward Blue Grass Hollow Road. Once you get to the ridge line at the top of Litte Mare, which will take some work, it's a fairly pleasant (but somewhat technical) downhill for about five (5) miles.
