While these tracks can be ridden and walked in either direction, Lockyer's is an absolutely brilliant descent.
There is one very steep section at the final descent which bypasses steep stairs. Walk your bike down or pucker up and hold on.
It's this section which makes the track a little less ideal in the reverse direction. The riding above the stairs is still great heading uphill however and is worth doing at least once.
From Mt York Road the single track turns onto an old road/rough fire trail after a few minutes. This road is rocky and pretty exciting. Eventually it returns to more technical single track wtih some great rock features.
Many people call this "The best mountain bike track in the Blue Mountains" and they're probably right.
"Lawson’s Long Alley and Lockyer’s Road Loop follow the earliest tracks down the mountain and into the Hartley Valley. Lawson’s Long Ally, named after William Lawson, one of the first Europeans to cross the Blue Mountains, was constructed in 1824 and was the only access route into the valley. The road was closed in 1832 when the Victoria Pass was opened. Enjoy superb views and historical points of interest."
