This trail is best ridden as a loop counterclockwise. Park in lot on end of NM578. Ride up FR58 to Middle Fork trailhead. Take Middle Fork trail up to Lost Lake trail. At the end of Lost Lake trail after the lake, descend East Fork Trail to Wheeler Peak road back to your vehicle.
On this loop you will start in the trees. By the time you come out of the canopy you will be over 11,000 feet with some awesome views. Here you are riding the edge of the mountain till you reach the lake. The lake is beautiful and definitely worth the climb so stop to enjoy it. The descent back down is fast, rocky, and fun.

Standing snow, 6-8” deep in sections create some hike-a-bike at times. Descent is pretty clean and cold snow was grippy.
