This upper ridge section of Mack Ridge is mostly pretty easy flowing trail. Heading east there is a difficult section right after you drop off the double track viewpoint, but then it is pretty easy after that. The only thing that really makes this an intermediate trail is that first rocky droppy section and the fact that there is a lot of exposure. You can't take your eye off the trail in sections that get close to the ridge

Amazing views to be had on this section of the trail. As the description states you will encounter light tech at the beginning and some exposure. However there is nothing really techy about the trail after the first part, so as long as you can ride straight, you will not have a problem. If riding from Hawkeye Parking Lot, once you get to the other black section of Mack (West), that's where you will have to deal with a combination of exposure and technical challenges for a portion of the trail.
