Manzanita can be a FAST downhill comprised of hardpack sandstone that tends to have a bit of kitty litter on top. On the downhill, there is a very significant exposure in the form of a severely steep drop-off down into a canyon. The majority of
the trail runs along this exposure until you get near the bottom where it sweeps right and leads you to a rather steep, off camber switchback down into a quick creek water crossing and an immediate steep but short climb out to the end of the trail. The upper and very bottom sections can experience significant overgrowth in spring time but it is pretty faithfully maintained. During those late winter, early spring maintenance periods, it is necessary to create very steep and peaky water bars across the trail in numerous places. Be cautious of your speed till you have experienced current conditions. They can be dangerous to those unsuspecting riders that cut loose from the top. Manzanita does experience travel in BOTH directions but the predominant cycling direction is downhill with a right turn made on Hazard's Cyn Road and return to the intersection with East Boundary Trail.

Decent conditions today in the downhill direction. Vegetation is ok right now.
