Forest Road 64 connects Ponderosa Road to other trails in the Groom Creek area. The Ponderosa side is more heavily trafficked due to campsites along the road and is generally smooth and gradual with the exception of one steep climb. After ascending toward the bean peaks, the trail turns south and heads down. This side is much steeper and rougher, but still 100% rideable in both directions.

Access Info Restricted Access

The easiest way to access FR64 is from Ponderosa road, where there is a large dirt parking lot that narrows into the road. Trails like 382 connect to 64, but many of them are more primitive. The best way to access 64 from the east side is from FR 9403Y through a short connector crossing groom creek, or FR 9418R.

Disclaimer

FR 64 is not accessible from Maripai road as it passes through a private camp with a gated entrance.
