This section of the Mickelson Trail follows US-385. You are still in the hills and there is some nice scenery.
There is a per person user fee for the Mickelson Trail with passes available at all trail heads.

Park at either the Harbach Park Trail in Custer located at the intersection of Washington & 6th Streets across from the Custer Area Chamber of Commerce or at the White Elephant Trail Head located about three miles north of Pringle on the west side of US-385.
