This section of the Midstate Trail follows the western side of Blood Swamp south of Ruben Walker Road and north of Pine Plains Road. In the middle, it travels through a dense young forest "tunnel" that has since been cut out of the official Midstate route in favor of following an Army Corps of Engineers property line. Dike #3 of the Barre Falls flood control project is at the southern end of this segment.
